Who We Are

The Public Safety In-Service Program, operating under the Southeastern Public Safety Institute (SEPSI), offers continuing education and career development advanced/specialized training for public safety practitioners and the communities they serve.

Criminal Justice In-Service Programs

The program also manages the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commissions's (CJSTC) Trust Fund budget for Region IX. This budget allows law enforcement agencies the ability to send their local, active law enforcement professionals to crucial, high demand specialized training at no cost.

All courses offered are approved by the Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission and may be applied to fulfill mandatory retraining requirements.

Instructors who teach career development training are chosen based on subject matter expertise, advanced knowledge and experience in specialized areas.

In Harm's Way Psychological Survival for LE Oct. 8, 2019 Tuition Free  8:00 am - 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm This four-hour presentation focuses on the psychological survival for law enforcement officers. It is important for agencies to recognize the fact that the extreme stressors their officers and first responders face on a daily basis eventually take a toll. Every law enforcement officer, first responder, trainer, supervisor, and executive needs to know about the signs of suicide and what steps can be taken to prevent it. The stigma of asking for help must be stripped away and the need for open and frank discussion should be encouraged.

Leadership Techniques to Recruit & Retrain New Police Officers Nov. 12-13, 2019 for $300 This two day (16 hour) training program is designed for law enforcement supervisors at the first line, mid-level, and command staff levels of an agency. The curriculum will cover different leadership concepts and techniques that are specifically related to the law enforcement environment. Instructor(s) will define the characteristics of the current law enforcement workforce and its future challenges to law enforcement leadership. Instructors will also explain research showing what drives Generation Y (aka Millenials) and Generation Z (aka Homeland Generation) employee engagement. While the recruiting of Generations Y & Z are difficult, tactics will be provided to specifically target these generations for recruitment.Please read: "This class is NOT Trust Fund eligible"

Confidential Source Development Nov. 15 for $150 A one day (8 hour) training program designed for law enforcement investigators, criminal interdiction officers, and supervisors participating in Narcotics Investigations. The curriculum will explain the differences, strengths, and weaknesses of different types of Confidential Sources that are utilized in high profile investigations. These types will include Sources of Information, Defendant Sources, Mercenary Sources and concerned Citizens. The program will provide the best practices when dealing and working Confidential Sources to protect the integrity of the investigation as well as the investigator. The instructors will provide guidance on how to recruit and develop these sources of information. Investigators will also learn techniques on how to properly debrief these sources and subsequently document this information in written debriefing reports. Equivalency of Training for Corrections and Law Enforcement Become a certified police or corrections officer in Florida. Qualification course given four times a year.

Defensive Tactics Instructor Update CJSTC #1200 Oct. 7-9 and Nov. 12-14, 2019. The goal of the Defensive Tactics Instructor Update Course is to train instructors and to provide an overview of changes made to the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program: High Liability Defensive Tactics and the new Advanced Defensive Tactics. This update course is mandatory for all Defensive Tactics instructors and must be completed by 2020 to be eligible to teach the new Defensive Tactics curriculum starting in 2020. *** SPC EMPLOYEE INSTRUCTORS WILL BE GIVEN PREFERENCE FOR REGISTERING FOR THIS COURSE***** Eligibility Requirements: Students must hold an active Criminal Justice and Training Commission General Instructor Certification and High Liability Instructor Certification for Defensive Tactics.

Instructor Techniques Refresher CJSTC #1115 November 7, 2019 for $200.00   
This course is part of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) approved Specialized Training Program. The General Instructor Refresher Course was organized and developed to provide refresher training for instructors who have allowed their certification to expire or did not obtain their General Instructor Certification within four years of completing the Florida General Instructor Techniques Course. The course intent is to provide instructors with the core knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide efficient and effective training to fellow criminal justice personnel in those skill or subject areas dictated by local need. There is an attendance policy and those attending will be required to pass a written exam by a minimum of 85%.      Please read: "This class is NOT Trust Fund eligible"

  • Firing Range:  Flat rate fee of $25.00 per person during normal business hours M‐F (8am‐5pm) (No hour minimum, 4 person minimum)
  • Firing Range:  After hour rate, $25.00 per person plus $31.78 per hour (5pm‐10pm)
  • Driving Range:  $10.00 per hour per person, 1 hour minimum, 4 person minimum 
  • New Sim-Tac Building On Campus:  $10.00 per hour per person, 1 hour minimum, 4 person minimum
  • Defensive Tactics Mat room:  $10.00 per hour per person, 1 hour minimum, 4 person minimum-must pay for a minimum of 4 students 
  • Driving Pad Cone set up:  $50.00
